The Cactus Thread

That is so dang weird !!😱

I didn't know they were doing it until I noticed one leaning all the way forward one night. In the morning it had moved 180 degrees backwards so I set up a camera 😬

No one else has observed this behaviour, as it's so slow. Like no one had realised the continents had moved apart because it only happens a few inches a year.

I wrote to the Royal Horticultural Society, who told me to contact Kew Gardens, who told me to contact the Royal Horticultural Society 🙄

I spoke to the editor of the Cactus Magazine, he's seen them in habitat in Argentina, he said it might be that because they live up a mountain that it's too hot for them and they're looking for somewhere cooler. But i've also seen them move in the middle of winter when the cactus house got down to freezing so I'm still none the wiser 🤔

Do you suppose, @Zigs, that they are just moving towards and with the sun as it travels during the day? I noticed they move forward and back along the same path .

They move just as much as night and don't seem to follow the sun at all 😬

The original one that I saw move (Clive) was facing South in the middle of the night and in the morning was pointed towards the North East 🤔

Absolutely stunning I need to get one of these beauties thanks Ziggy for tagging me in this amazing picture 😁🌵
Well hello @CrazyCactusLady it's nice to see you on the forum. It will also be nice that Ziggy has yet another fan of his nasty glochid loving plants :ROFLMAO: - they seem to jump onto me whenever I get near his cactus house😨
Welcome to the forum anyway. Maybe you could put a short introduction in the intro bit, and tell us if you enjoy any other kinds of gardening - whichever way, it is good to have you on board :giggle:(y)

Glad you like it 🙂

Found an Oreocereus celcianus too 🙂🌵

Yorkshire is where I come from too - well actually mum went into the hospital just over the border to Notts and I was born in Worksop. We lived in Langold down by the lake. I could write chapters about it, but had better not here after all, it's Lord Awful's special cactus thread 🤭
