What do you do in winter when you can't garden?

Just finished one of Aabranoviche's 'Rivers of London' series, sort of magical detective stuff, consistently good, and the follow up to 'The Accidental adventures of the 100 year old man'. not nearly as good as the first one. I am just finishing off Oman's massive, two volume, tome. 'The Art of War in the Middle Ages', up to the mid 1400's and the wars of the roses, remarkable how little we know about some of those battles tactically when others 500 years before are recorded in some detail. Oman is a terrible writer, but the content is interesting.
Thinking about it, the other thing I do is write the occasional story and put them on YouTube. https://www.youtube.com/@oliverbuckle522/videos
Rivers of London I need to look at because I like historical mysteries with magic, as well. I have read " The Vine Witch " it's book one of a series of three by Luanna G. Smith. I've read all three, think it's very well written and has lots of twists and turns, and I'm after more like it .

Right! That made my mind up! I've just decided that if the weather is too inclement this winter, I'm going to dig out all my watercolour kit, and practise on my piano more often. I'm just too ancient to work through bad weather these days ☺️
I can't afford to be too fat, so I'll also play around with some new recipes and let Zigs get fat instead....

I take it pretty easy in winter too. I just plant a few brassicas and fill the rest of the garden with snow peas. There's very little to do but water when needed and pick as they mature. The raised beds cut down on kneeling and then I have plenty of time for making rugs, reading seed catalogs and planning next year's garden !!

I work too hard to get fat and I'm a simple cook. Mostly heat and eat or throw it all in a slow cooker and eat off that for a few days.

I used to do that too - a chilli con carne would last me a week. Things tend to change though when there's a man about the place

Oughhh nice !!! You could make a bit of change selling that !!

I've wanted to try it but glass scares me a bit. I got a big chunk in my arm as a kid when trying to open my stuck bedroom window. I think I've been traumatized !! 😂

Ta Annie 🙂

People like the glass but they don't want to pay for it. The individual sheets of coloured glass cost about £20 each, then you've got the lead to pay for, then the time to make it

I've cut my wrist while cutting a sheet of glass, it slipped.

I couldn't stop the bleeding so I went to my Sister to ask if she had a dressing. I was down with depression at the time and she thought I'd tried to top myself :rolleyes:😁

Still got the scar

That's the problem. Same with painting, the canvas and paints often cost more than what people are prepared to pay.

I was quite good at art in school. I used to paint in oils for a bit in my late thirties, but was never really satisfied with my efforts and didn't really finish them off, as I got bored with them.

I ditched several but, my wife insisted we keep these.

These are in the back of a cupboard.

and this one she wanted on the wall of the stairs landing.

VERY nice !! You're quite talented!!! But you know people don't appreciate one of a kind Art, it's too easy and cheap to buy a framed print from a famous dead artist.
