Veg Garden Updates

That a lovely video with birds singing, flowers blooming, and wonderful music to listen to. I thoroughly enjoyed that !!😊

Lots of work though !!

Ta Annie :) We were getting up about 5am in the summer to turn the hay before it got hot. Very satisfying running the rows up though :)

I've deleted it and reloaded it Annie, see if it works now :)
I think it’s me, not you. I’m on my IPhone instead of my tablet because my tablet wouldn’t power on yesterday. It seems that unless I go to YouTube’s site and search it, it gives me that black screen. I was watching George Carlin on stage on YouTube last night and got those videos, no problem !!

My new tablet will be here on Monday, so, I’ll watch it then 😁

That cress is very useful in winter salads! I'm not quite as enthusiastic though about today's picking of the greens. I have never seen so much slug poo in one picking - YUK. It took about four washes and a lot of close inspection to pass the test before blanching and freezing - talk about sticking to blankets 🤢It was like pulling dead midges out of a netted curtain. I need a cup of strong tea now.

Is Landcress the same as Mache ? I had Mache in Germany and loved it, it was sweet, but Landcress I've never knowingly eaten.

I didn't know anything about mache so I looked it up. No, it is known here as lambs lettuce, another one that Zigs grows, but not like land cress. That tastes like watercress, which is peppery. We are able to get that from a tiny village nearby when it's in season.

Thank you @Tetters. I grow Arugala, which you call rocket, for a peppery and nutty flavor in salads. I have to get some in the ground but it grows fast so, I' m sur that by the time my Mache, ( it's also sometimes called corn salad here) is up, the Arugala will be already ahead of it.

I thought of Rocket when you said Mache @Anniekay but Tetters beat me to it with Lambs Lettuce (also called Corn Salad here) We've only got one or two plants of Lambs Lettuce this year as I didn't get around to planting it

This is the stuff Tetters has been slaving over all afternoon...

Slugs have had a right go at it this year. They normally have a bit but they haven't stopped

Looks deliscious !! I've got one chinese cabbage being attacked so I put a few pieces of my black plastic edging on top of the soil around it today. Hope to get a few slugs from under it in the morning.

Hope you found the slugs, I've got my Chinese Cabbage on blocks in a tray of water.

Did you find your caterpillar Annie?

This is all we got from 1,000 parsnip seeds  First off they wouldn't germinate, then when they did come up the slugs ate most of them. The ones that survived then only got an inch and a half of rain all summer.
