The seed starting itch 😳

My seed starting itch needs a good scratch! My celery seeds arrived today, and they sent me the wrong ones ☹️ They should have been giant red, and they sent one called greensleeves !
Oh well - I'll have a go at a few of those on a window sill and have a look elsewhere for the giant red.

I will have to wait and see if anything appears in the new garden this year. A few shrubs need digging out and ousting and a couple of others need to be moved. I've got some two year old seeds that I'll sow and see if there is any response from those, but I won't be buying any this year as I'm changing the layout of part of the garden.

Still more fungi coming up, there are a lot of them, but in between there are a couple of plants just showing. I am doubting everything now, did I spill onion seed? Are they weeds? Will they turn into tomatoes? Maybe I will get some more seed anyway, that should guarantee germination of the saved ones, not that I am superstitious or anything:whistle:

I mixed Brimstone with my Onion seed compost before sowing, so far only onions coming up. The Leeks started to push through today too 🙂

How fantastic, to get those kinds of results in January would be unheard of here. Zigs just said that he actually saw his seedlings had leaned a bit towards the light when the sun managed to peep through temporarily today. Ours have had little light and little heat, that's why I don't usually bother with anything much until about the end of February. Seeing your results there must make winter feel like a friendly time of year :giggle: (y)

Yes, it makes gardening more fun because I don't pine away for spring weather to come; I can enjoy seeing my little seedling grow through our short winters and get an early crop in the ground for possibly a May harvest !! 😄

I planted two trays, one of my saved seed, one of "Mr Fothergill" commercial seed for comparison. Twelve of mine came up, two days later there were four of the others. I have them on my East facing window sill with a lamp on them, the commercial ones look generally weaker and not as good, hooray, saving is a success.

Put the propergators in the conservatory ready for next week. The one on the left is a proper one, the one in the middle is a heated tray with a separate lid and the one on the right is the one i use to warm the compost up in a bag.
The aluminium at the back is on cardboard as a light wall. I got the idea when I watched Geoff Hamilton on gardeners world making a light box.

River is inspecting them to see if they're right.
