Weather..

I remember the sea freezing over @Tetters. My dad took my brothers and I to Southend-On-Sea in Essex (8 miles away from where we lived) to see it. Such a strange phenomenon.

Surprisingly The Highlands of Scotland tends to get less snow than further south, closer to the border with England. I've lived in Scotland 8 years and only been snowed in once.

It doesn't look that deep but our road was impassable.

The worst snow I've experienced was in 2013 when living on the Isle of Man. For our international friends here, the island is in the Irish Sea almost equal distance between Ireland and Northern England. The island very rarely drops below -5C/23F but was hit by a freak snowstorm that year at easter. My village had to be dug out and again roads were impassable.

Sunset times are just starting to improve here in Scotland but it will be a while before sunrise follows suit. Sunrise today 0900 and sunset 15.33. Around the summer solstice it barely gets dark overnight.

That reminds me of Bismarck North Dakota back in the mid 1970s. Lived there for a year and a half. We had two seasons winter and August. Can have - 40 below zero during a good blizzard!! Had to shovel out of our garage to get out! I definitely don't miss those blizzards and temperatures. No Natural trees to block wind either !! The only trees were along the Missouri River or what farmers planted along fields as wind breaks. The joke up there is the state tree is a telephone pole! Was so glad to escape the 3rd blizzard and fly to Tucson Arizona!!! Ahhhh!!
