Update !! Five days from planting I have...

Moneymaker tomato is up this morning. I've never grown these before but you Brits probably know all about them since they were developed in the UK by Henry Garton in the 20th century and are quite disease resistant.


This is the Longkeeper tomato plant. 78 days to harvest and when they are pink you pick them, store them at room temperature out of direct light ( I put them in the cupboard) and I have grown these before and had them keep for 3 months !! Fresh tomatoes for Christmas !!


A new French Marigold, for me, Naughty Marietta. 12-18" tall that is strongly scented and helps to deter pests. I like the dark red centers on these.


Lastly, Chianti Dianthus came up. Dark reddish- black with white tips cut by pinking shears !!

Right now, since it hadn't rained in a week, I'm watering the outside veg garden. It's cloudy but no rain predicted. It's a pain since I had to haul out the hose and sprinkler, unwrap the faucet from it's winter 'jammies, set up the glass rain gauge, and reconnect the water, then later, put it all back . But, I don't really mind, that's gardening !!

I don't expect to make money either !! Lots of folks grow them here in the States as well but the most popular tomato of all for home gardeners is Park's Whopper. Determinate bush tomato so, people like they don't need to stake them.

Anyway, those seedlings seem to be enjoying each other's company !!
I have grown lots of these over the years ''Cerinthe major'' -they are amazing plants, so pretty and an electric blue colour. They look after themselves well, and put up with any weather for years. Good choice

The Cerinthe are annuals but they have big seed heads and readily reseed in my warm climate. You could always collect the seed to plant out next year.

The ones I grew were there for many years. Maybe they seeded themselves, I think they are biennials, but not sure. I know I never pulled them out,and there were always some the following year, but they were out on the campsite where I tended to let everything get on with it on their own.
