My mother told how when they were married they had no money, so went for a honeymoon for a cycling holliday staying in youth hostels. First day out Dad found a dead red squirrel and decided he wanted to keep it, Mum said after the first week they had one end of the dormitory to themselves.
When we found dead animals and birds as kids we used to sieve earth into a greengrocer's box, lay them out , and then sieve more earth over them before burying the box with a stick in one corner to mark the spot. The next year we would dig them up and my brother would carefully reconstruct the skeleton , he had a row of them along the top of his bookshelf. He also had a badger skin he had found and tried curing himself using tannin from oak twigs. I worked quite well, but was stiff as a board, we sometimes used it like an oversize frisbee.

I have been known to skin things. I skun a raccoon that had just been hit by the car
infront of me. That was my first try. I cured him in Alum and when I went to the druggist to order the alum he asked what I wanted it for?

His eyes got big as saucers when I told him !!

This is a mole that I skun in 2002. He's still in perfect shape too !!

Years ago I skinned hundreds of Racoons and had plenty meat in the Freezer but Jumbo Racoons were bringing $50 apiece.

I had a swamp raccoon as a nightly visitor. He was the size of a golden retriever !! The swamp coons are much darker colored than normal. They are very dark brown on the top and 3/4 down the sides of their bodies with the stripes only visible on lower torso legs and face.

My neighbor was in a tree stand, saw one and thought it was a black panther until it got closer to him.

So my wife's family always does Mexican food for Christmas Eve. For that, I'll be making a pot of menudo and a pot of pozole. We'll have beans, rice, enchiladas, tamales, and just about everything in between.

On Christmas Day we'll spend that at my mom's house, and I'll be smoking a prime rib. With this we'll have mashed potatoes and green beans, if I were guessing. My wife, mom, and sister are in charge of sides and dessert so who knows really.

I've actually never cooked one before. I've eaten it a few times at gatherings and have never been a fan, but it's something I've wanted to try for a while. In my mind, I can do it way better than those other guys so it'll be great. I have warned the family that it's quite possible that we're eating gas station burritos that night, though, if it turns out terrible.

Oh yeah brains was a big thing. Don't let my Ex kid you. She got mad at me shooting Squirrels in the head. You do that on purpose keeping me from eating the brains.

Yea go to any Meat Market and they would have Hog Heads hanging.

Go to the store buy fresh Carp.

Grandma's was fun at Christmas. Depression was showing. You took your time opening gifts so she could reuse wrapping paper. She always had Christmas Cards, oh pay no mind to the White Out.
