I know very little about indoor plants so would you lovely people identify these two that are in my daughter's base office please. If they are retrievable can they be pruned down to force bottom growth?

The first looks like a Dracaena, not sure about the second but @Tetters wll probably know and correct me if it's not a Dracaena
Although not 100% certain, I think Annie is right with the Dracaena, and the other one looks like a very forlorn umbrella plant (Schefflera) --this is where I got to when I saw @DrCase had come to the rescue :giggle: (y) thank you for that back up.
I absolutely cannot back anything up here because I am useless with indoor plants generally speaking, but if those were in my hands they would get the chop, above a node as low down as about 6 inches.
I also think that they should come out of the pots to ascertain the state of the roots, and adjust the pot and compost at the same time - obviously checking if there is any moisture there. Then I would say a prayer, and wait until spring to give them a good feed.
