Do you worry about your water?

Me and other local growers have problems with County Water because of Chemicals added.

I checked PH on my Tap Water 6.5 not too bad. Been collecting Rain Water off my roof. PH was 7.3 ??? But it is coming through Oak Trees.

For Potted Plants not hard to adjust PH and can let it set out to take off Chlorine.

Not able to do this with some stuff and is far easier to use Tap.

Was thinking of setting up Tank and all for Rain Water collection.

In past I have plenty of Hydrants and Hoses. Seriously thinking of setting up a Drip System for my garden.

Open for ideas.

I would love to have a drip system, especially in the summer when there is no rain for weeks and weeks. It would work out more economical too with all the water going through a meter.
We don't like all the muck we have in our water - especially just lately, as the system we have is very outdated, and the water companies give all the money we pay to the shareholders instead of looking after the equipment. It tastes foul  We have some big tanks set up for Zigs cactus because rainwater is better without all the chemicals. We have bought a water filter for the kitchen and it made the water taste lovely. A cup of tea tastes like proper tea now. It's like this one on the link
We have lots of water barrels too, wherever we have a drainpipe 😃

Your rainwater is less acidic than your tap water. I have the opposite: limey tap water and we have acid rain in the east most of the time.

Like Tetters says, our water is little more than cleaned effluent with a load of chlorine dumped in it now. It used to come from boreholes into the limestone but there's too much extraction now. All the rivers have raw sewage dumped in them every week. They say it's because the treatment plants over flow during storms. Funny that, as we;ve had a drought all summer :cautious:

We've now got about 4,000 litres of rainwater storage which is enough for the plants if you manage it well.

Most cacti (but not all) prefer acidic to neutral water so it's easier to give them rainwater and pot up the ones that like lime in a different substrate.

Our water comes from lochs (lakes) and its clear, clean and soft, lovely to wash your hair in. :) I don't know if chlorine is added, I certainly can't taste or smell it.

Have you got sheds or similar that you can fix guttering too that's away from the trees? Then it can be fed into large containers.

Every so often they do work on the ancient, Victorian, iron, mains pipes, and the water turns orange from the disturbed rust. No harm in it, a bit of extra iron might even be good, but it looks horrid. In a way I would rather it came through iron than plastic, but they are still using pipes that must be getting on for 200 years old. I wonder how many of the modern mains will still be usable after that time?

You could probably bottle that and market it as "Sussex Sprng" 😁
