Roman Potting Shed

Aah, wrong end then Olly 😬

I can't find any info on the iron tools, probably copies as I can't see the iron surviving 2,000 years in estuarine silts. I found Bronze Roman tools working in Turkey.

This is my Bill Hook (needs a bit of sharpening)

I've had this Man and Boy now. Mind you it's had 2 new blades and 3 new handles.

What do you use that for? If I met a man wielding one of those I'd run like h.e. double hockey sticks, for my life !!😱

Mainly for chopping kindling, which is not what it's meant for. Should be used for laying hedges. That's bending over young growth (usually on Hazel trees) and chopping not quite right through so it's still attached to the tree. This is then weaved in sideways and new growth comes up vertically to form a stock proof hedge 🙂

I'd run if I saw someone carrying one in Dover 😬
