When my Daughter Poppy was about 5, we dug a conker seedling out of the football pitch in the spring, before the mower cut it down.

We grew it on in a pot till my Son Barney was about 5 and then planted it out at the bottom of the field where we used to live.

This is a screenshot from Google street view as I now live a hundred odd miles away...

How I loved gathering horse chestnuts as a child in New England (Massachusetts.) They grow into magnificent trees with the best, coolest shade and collecting those shiny brown nuts are like collecting
gems that fall to earth. Money growing from trees, they are, at lesst to me they were, when I was a child.

You've planted a new money tree, in my eyes, you have.

Welcome to the forum @Anniekay :)

We call the nuts conkers over here and play a game with them. They're threaded onto a bit of string and you hold yours still while your opponent tries to hit yours with their conker.

The aim is to try and break your opponent's nut and "conker" them.

Schoolboys do all sorts of things to harden theirs into the best one, like soaking them in vinegar or drying them out in the oven 😁
