37 types of Sage just because.

Fall gardening is as much about spring planning as anything for me and I have been slowly reducing any herb efforts in ground and moving to grow in pots and planters. I have also been experimenting with locally available herbs to replace harder to find versions such as the thai basil in my beloved green curry chicken dishes. I used mexican basil last I made it and it was very-very close with the anise licorice accent.

I am a commited basil fan though not so much a sage groupie. I will use sage from time to time. I just read an article in my feed about scarlet sage, which is supposed to have magical attraction powers over the red cardinals that we see here. Between my interest in fresh herbs and red birds I found myself clicking search terms in the cardinal article and quickly ran across this:

Now I want a sage planter like my developing basil planter.

Thanks for that Dirt, it was an interesting article indeed. I am particularly interested in the more ornamental Salvias I have to admit, but am growing the Clary Sage (Sclarea} at the moment as it's so showy and long flowering. Some of the other Salvias are not frost hardy, and so I've lost a few of those in harsh winters - ''Amistad'' being one of those, a lovely one with deep blue flowers.
The only culinary one I have at the moment is 'Officinalis' although I've grown 'tricolor' and 'purpureis' in the past as well. Neither of those is as strong growing or reliable though as good old 'officinalis'
I'm afraid my cooking skills remain very basic. I prefer time in the garden to a slog in the kitchen any day 😊
