This was growing in the grass and was just a little clump of 7-9 leaves with contasting veining that I assumed was some type of weed. "I'll deal with it at some point" I thought. Two years after moving in here I dug that clump up, removed the grass and plunked it into a 4'x7' bed on the north side of the house about 15' west from where it had been growing.
Lo and behold it grew 2' tall and flowered that same year from late summer to first frost !! Purple !!
Above is what it looks like ith flowers fully open.
The next pictures are from this morning showing veining of stems and leaves:
I'm guessing it's some type of wild flower because it evidently enjoys the native soil. Filled the entire bed by self seeding after one year, and it's purple so I love it !!
But what is it?
