This is another one of Tetter's Trees. The label has worn out but I think it's a Rowan or Mountain Ash. You don't usually find them on Chalk soil though. They were the only fruit tree that grew up the mountains where I used to live in Wales. They have bright Orange/yellow fruits that taste awful.

Be very carefull of Rowan fruits. They can be poisonous if they are pocked before a good frost.Picking them and freezing them before eating is ok though. One good use for them is to make a jam/jelly to eat with lamb.

As an aside, rowans are part of the "Holy Trinity" in Viking <nd even current Scandinavian culture. The two other trees are Yew and Elder.
 
After making 5 gallons of wine with them I'll be so carefull that I'll never pick them again :eek: It was so bad you could only drink it at the end of a party :rolleyes:

That's interesting Sandy :) Lots of Viking names in England, think they may have popped over a few times.
