Carrots late season

I normally cannot grow/harvest carrots after early March here in my East Texas climate... it just gets too hot and too humid for their liking. They quickly bolt to seed.

In an effort to possibly extend the growing season for them, I planted a good stand of them in a Hügelkultur container (HK) back in February. Taking a peak at the progress shows they are responding very well so far. With temps set to go above 90 deg. F from now to September it will be really interesting to see if they can survive and mature into good tasting carrots.

I can't say I understand why, but I have found the HK containers are able to extend some veggie's growing season. For example, lettuce and brassicas will germinate and begin growth in extreme temps in the HK containers that would not otherwise do in the ground. Hence, I'm trying to determine if carrots will perform likewise. I'll update this thread in a few weeks and time will tell.
